At the Municipal Market of Calella we find the perfect place to buy fresh quality products, in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Located in the city centre, in the Plaza del Rey, the Calella market opens the doors to a tasting of smells and flavours, in a nineteenth-century style building that invites you to capture all the details. The historic building is a project of the architect Jeroni Martorell, built in 1927, and offers the singularity of reproducing the baroque façades of “masías”, the Catalan farmhouses of the area.
It is wonderful to go shopping to the market or just browsing around the stalls, savour the reds, yellows and greens of fruits and vegetables, the silver of fish… A combination of colours, forms and flavours that mix with the buzz and conversations of people. All the stalls offer you the best local products, from Maresme strawberries to squids, cuttlefish and seafood of the waters along the region. And if you do not feel like cooking, don’t worry; the market will do it for you! Come to the New Market Bar and you will find a very special service: you bring the ingredients and they prepare it to your taste.
Throughout the year, the market beats with the rhythm of celebrations, workshops and activities that make this place a gastronomic and social meeting point. Every week the multifunctional hall of the market becomes a dance floor for the elderly. In spring, during the celebration of Moments of Flowers, the space becomes a small green oasis full of flowers and seasonal plants. And when summer is coming and the nights are brighter for longer, here comes the expected Night of Tapas, a gastronomic tasting of the best local cuisine to enjoy in the company of friends, neighbours and visitors. The market and its surroundings are filled with tables to savor the tastings made with market produce, in a relaxed and festive atmosphere. There is no shortage of fun, with inflatable castle for younger children and good music for everyone!
